Read Full Transcript

Maggie:

00:00:20.66 – 00:00:30.81

Yeah Really really not a lot of thoughts that was just not pretty not the Penn State basketball that we’ve um we’ve gotten used to seeing

Maggie:

00:00:31.04 – 00:00:37.32

just so many things that were as we’re watching We’re like oof that just is

Maggie:

00:00:37.87 – 00:00:57.82

a team that’s maybe not not paying attention not reacting not responding I think Penn State looked pretty flat both offensively and then really defensively just not responding to what they were seeing from the Nebraska offense Just a flat performance all around

Vince:

00:00:58.1 – 00:01:25.66

Yeah And this is the second game in a row where Penn State has made a role player look like a superstar Uh you had mason Willis dropping 29 on them Uh he set the three point record for Purdue and today it was Casey Tominaga And uh this is a guy who really didn’t do anything in their their first matchup Penn State just played good defense The 1st 30 minutes of the game he didn’t score

Vince:

00:01:26.12 – 00:01:53.21

I think he might have hit one or two threes against Penn State in their matchup against us in the B J C However today they made him look like a superstar He made 12 field goals today Five of 10 from three and that’s what you expect from Casey Tominaga You expect him to make some big threes that’s part of his game Uh he’s like a huge part of their offense and that’s what you expect from Division one athletes That is why they are there However

Vince:

00:01:53.35 – 00:02:15.64

um just complete breakdowns on the defensive end of the the defense was absolutely abysmal whether it was Andrew funk or cam winter whoever it was guarding Casey Tominaga he was just making all these backdoor cuts and getting easy layups And this is not a guy who’s like super athletic or shifty like a Kanye Clary

Vince:

00:02:15.79 – 00:02:44.76

or like strong or like a jail in Pickett or like long and athletic This guy’s 6 to £275 Like there’s really nothing special about him as a player outside of his ability to shoot the basketball like that is where he makes his money That is why he’s on scholarship He’s there to shoot threes And today Penn State made him look like a superstar just completely undisciplined on the defensive end Um you saw that early on in

Vince:

00:02:45.16 – 00:02:51.75

The first half where they gave up 26 points in the 1st 10 minutes So Nebraska was on pace to

Vince:

00:02:52.4 – 00:03:20.94

uh be on pace for over 100 points 100 and four points with the 1st 10 minutes to play did get a little better before the half They only gave up 11 points went on some runs at times to cut it to single digits at the half their points in the game late in the second half for Penn State was really Klong and fighting back Um Seth lundy played out of his mind today to keep them any lines in it from behind the arc He was

Vince:

00:03:22.04 – 00:03:31.85

set a program record He was eight of 15 or eight of 13 Excuse me from 38 to 15 on field goes overall And yeah just

Vince:

00:03:32.53 – 00:03:38.17

you know they fought but you know at the end of the day it was just one of those things they didn’t

Vince:

00:03:38.79 – 00:03:47.57

lockdown and inferior team when they needed to do it And this this loss hurts Penn State so horribly Um

Vince:

00:03:48.18 – 00:04:04.1

They say in the big 10 you gotta hold serve at home and right now we have we have two home losses we have the Michigan state lost and the Purdue loss against the boilermakers and the polestar Those were our two And then we had one road win

Vince:

00:04:04.66 – 00:04:25.72

uh at Illinois earlier in the year when they were going through a bit of a slump and that was a nice quad one win and this was really their chance to even things up and hold serve coming into a match up Uh you know against the badgers in the B J C And that you know that could have you know sent us in a positive direction

Vince:

00:04:25.89 – 00:04:44.36

and giving us positive things to talk about However uh Penn State did not take care of business today on the defensive end they were outhustled and this is their first loss to a quad three quad four team So Maggie what are your thoughts on how this hurts Penn State

Maggie:

00:04:44.37 – 00:04:54.63

Yeah I mean when we saw that michigan when last week I think we were really excited about the momentum that that was going to set up for Penn State

Maggie:

00:04:54.86 – 00:05:00.85

And you know they played Purdue and we knew that Purdue was coming And I think the Penn

Vince:

00:05:00.85 – 00:05:02.44

 State did

Maggie:

00:05:02.44 – 00:05:09.82

as you know as good a job as we could have hoped against Purdue You know that was a game we were not expecting to win

Maggie:

00:05:10.33 – 00:05:37.95

But I didn’t I didn’t really think that we could rebound with a win against Nebraska despite Penn State having some sort of historically weird losses to Nebraska especially last year Um the Nebraska win in the B J C So I thought that this was a really winnable game and I think that um yeah it just seemed like a really flat performance It’s the kind of thing where it’s like I

Maggie:

00:05:38.38 – 00:05:54.24

there’s only so much commentary I can provide on this game when it just was all around flat there You know some small things that I noticed but it just was not the momentum that we had really hoped to see Penn State carry into this game

Vince:

00:05:54.82 – 00:06:10.76

Yeah And really the defense was so frustrating to watch day There are so many times early on the 1st 1st half or there’s getting layups like you’re playing against Division one basketball players they’re gonna make layups You can’t give them

Vince:

00:06:11.27 – 00:06:38.0

you know easy layups Um You know Tominaga he’s gonna hit some threes derrick walker Really great post player he made some really nice post moves today that were tough and you got nine points Which overall that’s a if you were to tell me oh he’s only gonna have nine points today Like I’d be like oh Penn State’s totally winning this game Um You know gristle pretty good player he only had seven today He didn’t need to work because we just let Tominaga

Vince:

00:06:38.42 – 00:07:06.03

do whatever he wanted Uh you know let’s face it there’s no ifs ands or buts about it Like just backdoor cuts There were times where um you know Penn State players were not positioned appropriately they were just scared about the three and you know they forgot he’s a Division one basketball player that can make lips close close to the basket So that’s not not hard for a Division one basketball player to do So that was really frustrating to watch Um

Maggie:

00:07:06.51 – 00:07:11.11

And I mean you can’t hate Tomonaga for finding

Vince:

00:07:11.12 – 00:07:12.36

 uh

Maggie:

00:07:12.37 – 00:07:35.34

you know finding a way to score and then just repeating it He you know he found something effective and it worked for him all night long and it’s like you can’t you know you can’t hate a guy for doing something that’s working well for him especially when Penn State just could not manage to lock him down So I think I think we do have to give him a lot of credit for being a

Maggie:

00:07:35.8 – 00:07:45.67

uh player that I think has good good court vision and has really a sense of how to get open quickly and he took advantage of that all night long

Vince:

00:07:45.68 – 00:08:02.76

Yeah like if you’re if you’re playing defense you got to be locked in and focused and the really frustrating thing is you know that that’s what coach shrews instilled into the guys and you know we’re a defense for his team were really not pretty and uh you know definitely looks like some pretty boys tonight Like it was

Vince:

00:08:03.33 – 00:08:23.56

really really bad on the defensive end and you know there’s been times where I I’ve I’ve watched a team and you know I’ve been disappointed by the loss and like the field goal percentage is extremely low but those nights happen in basketball like there’s going to be nights and you don’t know why but you cannot make a shot offensively and

Vince:

00:08:24.09 – 00:08:35.12

um you know that happens but defensively you control how you play defense Like you know someone might be making crazy shots Uh you know maybe Derek walker had a big game but like

Vince:

00:08:35.82 – 00:08:55.72

You know they’re just they’re giving up the points they were giving up are just too easy and the way they gave them up like the 72 points isn’t bad I’m not mad about that I’m more mad about like why it was given up and you know just really tough and uh you know coach Cruz tried so many a lot of different things He played

Vince:

00:08:56.23 – 00:09:03.86

Let’s see 7 8 9 11 guys tonight and this the job was not getting done Um

Vince:

00:09:04.52 – 00:09:33.84

you know it’s it just it just wasn’t good enough tonight and um I don’t know what’s happening with cam and another zero point performance over three from the field miles Dredd o for six from the field all threes Um you know I’m not sure what’s happening with our senior leaders who we’ve really leaned on this year and they’ve been really good at times but they gotta find a way to get out of the slump and you can just tell that

Vince:

00:09:34.08 – 00:09:38.69

you know they’re not playing with the same confidence that they had been earlier in the season

Vince:

00:09:39.2 – 00:10:02.52

and you know what do they need to do to fix that I don’t know And you know they did go with that hand Dorsey lineup you know earlier you know didn’t have quite the success I thought Mikey played fine for the most part just wasn’t hitting his shots and uh you know I played better Kevin actually had a pretty good game tonight I really loved his hustle and determination

Vince:

00:10:02.89 – 00:10:10.97

Uh he grabbed nine rebounds tonight I was diving for loose balls I absolutely love the hustle Um

Vince:

00:10:11.64 – 00:10:25.46

uh he was one for two from the field so he got a little bit going offensively he got his own rebound and then finished finished at the at the basket Uh however he was the only guy to shoot free throws tonight and he was one for four and

Vince:

00:10:26.31 – 00:10:30.68

that’s not not good for a Division one basketball player Um

Vince:

00:10:31.28 – 00:10:57.62

you know so it really really bummed to see things like things like that happen And also another thing that was kind of frustrating is you see pick you know driving a lot and you know even lundy today and drawing pretty significant contact But the you know the whistles didn’t seem to be blown tonight so they didn’t get help in that area either And you know kind of just you know between everything Penn State did

Vince:

00:10:58.1 – 00:11:14.91

Uh and just the way everything went tonight it was just you knew when they were coming back and then it was 50 and you you saw Nebraska respond and then we had a bad offensive possession You just knew with six minutes to go that they weren’t going to get done tonight

Maggie:

00:11:15.63 – 00:11:16.93

 Yeah And

Vince:

00:11:17.51 – 00:11:17.69

 I

Maggie:

00:11:17.69 – 00:11:40.65

mean I remember saying maybe like six weeks or a month ago like oh I’m kind of glad that miles Dredd is having a slump now instead of at the end of the season or instead of when we start the big 10 tournament play But I’m I’m a little concerned about how long this slump has gone on and you know not just dread I think we’re seeing a bit of a slump from

Maggie:

00:11:40.94 – 00:11:50.84

winter and I think um you know Andrew funk can be really really hot and then really really cold tonight He was kind of in the middle

Vince:

00:11:50.85 – 00:12:01.65

But yeah he was he was actually pretty good tonight He was five of nine from the field and you know four of eight from three So he he was on tonight and when he’s on Penn State usually wins but

Vince:

00:12:01.93 – 00:12:25.18

you know just the lack of production from other areas and the poor defense tonight really just you know was the nail in the coffin the defense more than anything And I think uh you know coach Rose gives gives his postgame conference he’s going to be like yeah Casey Tominaga should not be getting wide open layups Uh you know he had 72 point field goals tonight He’s a guy who

Vince:

00:12:25.46 – 00:12:32.93

um kind of like kind of more like funk You’re like you expect him to get his points from beyond the arc not doing much you know in the in the pain and

Vince:

00:12:33.45 – 00:13:03.2

and he just was allowed to do whatever he wanted tonight and just ran at the right hand to the right spot at the right time And you know there were times we just fell asleep and you gotta be focused when you’re on defense like you got to have your head on a swivel at all times high intensity look looking for every screen communicating with your teammates Like it was just um not Penn State’s a game performance on the defensive end and that’s what you need to win on the charlie said earlier in the season defense travels and

Vince:

00:13:03.54 – 00:13:31.52

I was hoping that you know when Penn State was coming back I was hoping that hey let’s play some big boy basketball Let’s shut these guys down and uh you know whatever we gotta do gritty not pretty let’s let’s find a way to get some buckets and win the game and you know with the way things things went uh they should have been able to do that Like Nebraska like in the first matchup they missed a lot of freezers They’re not a good free throw shooting team either They were 56% today Like

Vince:

00:13:32.03 – 00:13:42.23

when they’re doing that they’re almost gifting you the opportunity to come back in the game And you know Penn State just cannot get it back at the right time

Maggie:

00:13:43.1 – 00:14:10.02

I think with with Penn State we don’t see a lot of ability to maximize what is going right for the team when something key for them is going wrong Does that make sense Like they if they’re if they’re struggling in one area be it defense being you know the ability to make shots being at the ability to

Maggie:

00:14:10.38 – 00:14:29.92

you know be aggressive offensively get rebounds like there’s not really a sense of like I can step up the controllable in my play to compensate for what is going wrong It’s just sort of like oh gosh this is not going right but we can’t really do anything about it

Vince:

00:14:29.93 – 00:14:39.38

Yeah I think that’s a really good point Like when when when one area is slacking you got to make up for it in the other or you know when things get fixed

Vince:

00:14:39.74 – 00:14:49.05

Uh you know you gotta not let that other area dip Like when we were playing good defense and we came back and we’re just within striking distance Then

Vince:

00:14:49.76 – 00:15:19.33

the defense lulls and you know Nebraska is able to come back and really extend send the league and put Penn State away Like you know they got to do complimentary basketball and when the defense creates a turnover which they did a much better job in the second half The defense overall was better But you know they create some more turnovers however they don’t seem to really capitalize and uh you know really hurt Nebraska and you know they did come back But

Vince:

00:15:19.57 – 00:15:27.96

just another example of Penn State not closing out a close game when uh you would expect them to do that against an inferior

Maggie:

00:15:27.96 – 00:15:29.67

 opponent

Maggie:

00:15:31.03 – 00:15:34.03

I don’t really have a lot of other thoughts

Vince:

00:15:34.04 – 00:15:35.73

 Yeah

Maggie:

00:15:35.74 – 00:15:36.18

 Yeah

Vince:

00:15:36.19 – 00:15:50.62

Kind of one thought I had before we go into players of the game is why why is Evan Mahaffey only playing three minutes and a game like this where you know defense is clearly clearly the issue

Vince:

00:15:51.3 – 00:16:20.61

and that’s what he’s best at he’s best on the defensive end Um you know he had a nice stretch where he was also contributing a lot offensively and really finishing around the rim and you know even you know being a competent you know outside shooter from three and you know hitting some tough threes he’s improved in that area and now we just kind of see him on the bench and you know he had a great game against Nebraska when they played a few weeks ago

Vince:

00:16:20.87 – 00:16:21.81

 and

Vince:

00:16:22.34 – 00:16:29.59

you know defense is where we are lacking and that he’s kind of a defensive defensive specialist Why wasn’t he in the game

Maggie:

00:16:29.6 – 00:16:33.02

Yeah I don’t know I was wondering that too And I also

Maggie:

00:16:33.97 – 00:16:51.57

I think you know that that Penn State roster is not getting any younger and so to get a guy like that I think we’re gonna really see Penn State start to build their program around down the road These are really valuable minutes for him to get as a newcomer to this team So

Maggie:

00:16:51.87 – 00:17:17.46

I mean I’m I’m biased because I think he’s so much fun to watch and I think he’s a great player and he’s someone that I’m just really rooting for and I always am excited to to see play So I’m really have this like feeling of just rooting for him and wanting him to succeed But I do think he does he does make a difference And that’s something that I was really hoping we could see tonight especially when

Maggie:

00:17:17.66 – 00:17:28.52

the game is close enough that a couple a couple plays a couple of big stops you know one the energy and the effort of one guy can really make a difference when it is

Maggie:

00:17:29.03 – 00:17:39.05

So tell you especially when the Penn State defense I think could have really stepped up and that’s what we’ve we can count on behavior for So yeah I was going to not see him

Vince:

00:17:39.06 – 00:17:52.83

Yeah And with a few minutes he did get he got three minutes Um yeah he did miss that gimme layup Um but you know he came back the next possession and made a layup He had a rebound you know in that in that time period So

Vince:

00:17:53.08 – 00:18:22.15

I thought he was you know almost tilting things Penn State’s way and you know Cable was really pretty good defensively tonight but you know just offensively you’re not gonna get too much from cuba So I thought with the way the game was going and Penn State really needing to you know catch up instead of just worrying about maintaining the lead I thought you know not having Evan Mahaffy in there really hurt the team Uh so you know I’m really surprised

Vince:

00:18:22.52 – 00:18:27.49

if he’s not getting more minutes against Wisconsin I’ll be very shocked

Maggie:

00:18:27.5 – 00:18:29.95

Yeah I mean I hope he’s not hurt

Vince:

00:18:29.96 – 00:18:39.24

Hopefully Yeah hopefully there’s something not something like that going on like like an injury or something like an illness that we don’t know about

Vince:

00:18:39.77 – 00:18:47.51

You know we hope he’s doing well But yeah a real surprise to not see him on the court but

Vince:

00:18:48.24 – 00:18:58.58

yeah so that was a bit of venting and you know getting rid of our frustrations But um so we got some positive tonight Who’s going to get the Mahoney Mahler award for tonight’s game

Maggie:

00:18:58.59 – 00:19:06.78

Well I feel like the person I’m going to say is the person that you also want to give your award too So maybe we can

Maggie:

00:19:07.43 – 00:19:09.43

we can either split it or

Vince:

00:19:09.44 – 00:19:11.22

 alright

Maggie:

00:19:11.23 – 00:19:19.23

well we can say it I’ll name them Mahoney Mahler knowing that this will also be vince’s first choice for the Fidelity Fighter

Maggie:

00:19:19.48 – 00:19:48.81

And that is very clearly Seth lundy He was just truly carrying the team offensively and defensively tonight He was really really connecting on his three He was really making some big stops on defense Um you know trying to set up his teammates for shots So you know one of those nights that we we see a lot as Penn State fans that it’s either

Maggie:

00:19:48.97 – 00:20:07.88

um Jalen Pickett or Seth Lundy is kind of you know is on for the night and they’re sort of dragging around for other players that maybe are not not quite firing on the same level that they are So uh tonight was Seth Lundy’s night to shine and I do wish that it could have ended in a win for him

Vince:

00:20:09.25 – 00:20:37.62

Yeah yeah he was he was that he was by by far the best player tonight Um he was really assertive He when he was open he was taking those threes He was eight of 13 from behind the arc Um really aggressive to the room at times Just you know didn’t get calls at times from the officials Um so yeah great game Not only offensively but defensively he had a couple blocks tonight Had a nice steel Um you know he’s just a guy

Vince:

00:20:38.17 – 00:21:01.27

If everyone would have had Seth blondie’s mentality tonight Uh Penn State would not lost this basketball game if everyone played you know with the same intensity and hunger that Seth lundy played with tonight Like he he almost looked like you know he was just in that elite groove and you know you have those nights as an athlete and it’s great when you get them But

Vince:

00:21:01.63 – 00:21:05.61

yeah if we if we need everyone to be on Seth lundy’s energy level

Maggie:

00:21:05.62 – 00:21:07.34

 Yeah we need

Vince:

00:21:08.62 – 00:21:09.68

 yeah we need

Maggie:

00:21:09.68 – 00:21:10.59

 like we

Vince:

00:21:10.59 – 00:21:11.26

 need five

Maggie:

00:21:11.9 – 00:21:13.08

 Jeff

Vince:

00:21:13.08 – 00:21:30.43

Lundy lundy just make up all these names that But anyway moving on to uh you know I’ll give my Fidelity Fighter I think I’m gonna give it to Andrew Funk He’s really struggled on the road at times

Vince:

00:21:30.73 – 00:21:47.48

I was really surprised Coach cruise only gave him 25 minutes tonight Maybe he wasn’t happy with the defense Um but being five of nine from the field and four of eight from three He he’s doing his job You know he was there to make shots It’s just

Vince:

00:21:48.35 – 00:21:50.97

and so from some other areas it just seemed like

Vince:

00:21:51.48 – 00:21:58.72

we weren’t getting anything Um so yeah it’s really really tough night and then the bird brawler you have to give it to Jalen Pickett

Maggie:

00:21:58.73 – 00:21:59.81

 just for

Vince:

00:21:59.81 – 00:22:17.21

being consistent tonight And uh I thought I thought Nebraska did a pretty good job slowing him down for the most part but he finished with 15 points seven rebounds seven assists seven and 13 from the field So when you’re when you’re making over half your shots that’s a really good performance Uh

Vince:

00:22:17.46 – 00:22:22.23

but outside of that we’re just not getting much offensively Um good

Maggie:

00:22:22.23 – 00:22:23.83

thing we only have three awards to give

Vince:

00:22:23.83 – 00:22:33.12

out you know like against michigan we we had too many people on and it was too hard to you know pick out player awards But

Vince:

00:22:33.66 – 00:22:35.38

 yeah tonight it was

Vince:

00:22:35.91 – 00:22:37.45

 yeah it was just uh

Vince:

00:22:38.02 – 00:22:40.14

not not a great performance Um

Vince:

00:22:41.15 – 00:22:53.42

Do you do you think they’ll start kevin next week since he had a really nice performance and was really aggressive on the defensive end and getting rebounds Do you do you think we’ll see more of him in the matchup against Wisconsin

Maggie:

00:22:53.43 – 00:22:58.76

I mean I hope so I I think that the Mikey Hen

Maggie:

00:22:59.52 – 00:23:06.47

uh fling was fun while it lasted We’ll see if that keeps working I mean

Vince:

00:23:07.12 – 00:23:07.36

 I

Maggie:

00:23:07.36 – 00:23:15.71

think Mikey Hen has had a couple of breakout games recently Tonight was maybe not not his night I

Maggie:

00:23:16.35 – 00:23:17.32

 you know I

Vince:

00:23:18.09 – 00:23:18.37

 I

Maggie:

00:23:18.37 – 00:23:19.6

 think this is just

Maggie:

00:23:20.44 – 00:23:25.47

speculation but I would love to see Mahaffey and Gi start

Vince:

00:23:26.88 – 00:23:29.19

 Yeah I think uh

Maggie:

00:23:29.2 – 00:23:31.28

you know get some energy in their early

Vince:

00:23:31.29 – 00:23:40.14

Yeah well I think I I don’t think Mikey handed anything to lose the starting job tonight But without that being said I think

Vince:

00:23:41.24 – 00:24:10.11

he could potentially maybe start alongside caba makes me a really a little reluctant to have um heavy and guy together is um they just both don’t shoot high volume threes like the rest of the team and um this offense is predicated around floor spacing and ball movement and creating open shots And uh I think that you know you love guys sagging off cuba and

Vince:

00:24:10.46 – 00:24:38.95

you know Mahaffey especially when Jalen pickets driving to the pain that can create issues and then the other guys stay in there guys and that’s how you see like Seth lundy and Andrew funk getting clogged up from around the perimeter So I think maybe having Mikey hen alongside guy maybe that’ll be a combination that could be successful or maybe Mikey and together that might work out I think that has potential

Vince:

00:24:39.2 – 00:25:08.21

Uh just because Mikey is so good from behind the arc and you can count on him to knock down shots and just shoot without hesitation The only area where I see that potentially not working is on the defensive end is Mikey quick enough to guard these power forwards without without fouling and you know I like he’s definitely a really physical player So if someone is bigger than him you know he’s physical he’s stuff you know he’ll he’ll he’ll hold his own in the paint You don’t have to worry about that But

Vince:

00:25:08.39 – 00:25:20.57

keeping up with the speed of some of these you know quick forwards might be a challenge I think it’s something we’re maybe experimented on and seeing if it works because uh you know

Vince:

00:25:21.11 – 00:25:49.5

doing the same thing over again and expecting different results That’s the definition of insanity And Penn State really needs to get it together because they’re running out of time There’s one month left in the regular season before the Big 10 tournament I don’t foresee this team winning the big 10 just because of all the good teams you have indiana grooving right now produce probably the best team in the country Illinois is playing really good basketball Michigan state’s playing well Rockers is playing well

Vince:

00:25:49.7 – 00:26:18.0

You know those are the top five but I think you know Penn State you know if they played their potential they can be that 6 17 and uh you know they they had a chance to to stay in the race tonight and you know they didn’t do what needed to be done and now they’re going to find themselves in that pill battle for big 10 seating and uh you know trying to build up some some resume builders for the N C Double A committee So

Vince:

00:26:18.24 – 00:26:20.33

 yeah they needed they needed

Maggie:

00:26:21.13 – 00:26:21.34

 they

Vince:

00:26:21.34 – 00:26:31.18

need to do better Um And one way they can do that is getting a win in the B J C Wednesday night it’s gonna be it’s gonna be an 8 30 tip off on the big 10 network

Vince:

00:26:31.74 – 00:26:50.02

We are really looking forward to going back It’s been a little while we have a couple of road games and now we’re finally going back to the B J C So I’m really happy to show up and support these guys Um uh What do you think How do you feel about going into this matchup against the badgers

Maggie:

00:26:50.03 – 00:26:58.89

Yeah I think that the game that we saw against Wisconsin at Wisconsin was another game that we

Maggie:

00:26:59.19 – 00:27:18.8

we see a lot where it’s like oh they really could win this game If a couple of things go right for them I think there’s there’s a lot of games where it’s it’s close enough that it feels hard to speculate going in or it feels hard to feel confident that one team is going to win one way or another Especially

Maggie:

00:27:19.01 – 00:27:43.75

when we see how how volatile both pens day and and some of the other teams that they play can be So I do think that this could really go either way This um the game that they just had against Nebraska is not very encouraging but you know the last time that they were in the B J C They put 30 points up on michigan So it could it could really go either way

Vince:

00:27:44.33 – 00:28:09.53

Yeah I I feel really confident and confident about Penn State going against the badgers I do think that they really should have one on the road and you know I think they just missed out on a you know a handful of plays in the game and just didn’t take advantage and make shots when they needed to So I feel really good about Penn State coming back to the B J C They’ve played well there this season their only loss has been to michigan state

Vince:

00:28:09.73 – 00:28:30.38

Um and you know I feel good about you know these matchups and how they match up because Wisconsin is a team that doesn’t really score a ton of points offensively this is a point team that’s you know typically you know in the mid sixties and uh they don’t put up a ton of points and the key to stopping this team is

Vince:

00:28:30.75 – 00:28:59.31

stop in Hepburn and Connor season around the perimeter These two guys shoot over 40% from behind the arc and then on the interior the guys we need to watch out for our Tyler Wall and uh and Crowl if their center crowd had a huge game against them he dominated cable guy and you know whoever we put on him and you know I think I think with how Kevin played tonight he can do a much better job slowing him down and

Vince:

00:28:59.51 – 00:29:28.23

and limiting what he can do Um you know and I think it might even be worth trying to throw Mahaffey on him Crowl definitely showed that he has some range is three point percentage was only 27% but he was knocking them down when he was open against Penn State and he showed that he’s capable of doing that So you know those are the four guys that scoring an average double figures for the badgers So outside of that they don’t seem to get much

Vince:

00:29:28.51 – 00:29:30.25

 offensively from the team

Vince:

00:29:31.09 – 00:29:43.43

So if they can do those things slow down Crowl and while on the inside and Hepburn and a season from the outside I I think that’s the key to really slowing them down

Vince:

00:29:44.07 – 00:29:44.85

 Um

Vince:

00:29:45.96 – 00:29:54.92

So I feel good Maggie Communion predictions What is your Communion prediction as Penn State matches up with this badger squad

Maggie:

00:29:55.71 – 00:30:02.56

Oh gosh let’s see I predict that cable guy scores 10 points

Maggie:

00:30:03.16 – 00:30:03.42

 Yeah

Vince:

00:30:03.42 – 00:30:04.2

 I think that’s a good

Maggie:

00:30:04.21 – 00:30:08.52

I think I’ve said that before but I really feel at this time

Vince:

00:30:09.03 – 00:30:31.87

and I’m gonna I’m gonna give a similar prediction I’m going to predict that Kevin guy has 10 rebounds I really liked how he played tonight so I think he’s going to get back in that starting lineup and Coach Cruz is going to mix it up a little bit So I think I think you’ll see Kevin back in his starting spot and I think you’ll soon get 10 rebounds That’s my community prediction I really hope that

Vince:

00:30:32.28 – 00:30:47.79

miles and cam get out of their slumps They’re shooting slumps that they’ve been in Uh kIM did a pretty good job moving the bottle that he did have five assists So that that was nice to see But we also need to score Um because we can’t give the other team

Vince:

00:30:48.57 – 00:31:14.27

you know these opportunities where they can just be like okay we can leave this guy in the corner and shoot a three and we know he’s probably gonna miss So um yeah those are things that need to change for Penn State to be successful Another thing I think will be better as the defense I don’t think you’re going to see that same defensive performance Wednesday that you saw tonight I think they’re going to really feed off the energy from the crowd and

Vince:

00:31:14.4 – 00:31:31.41

that crowd noise from the student section is just gonna make it that much more difficult for the badgers to run their offense and communicate and you know do what they need to do So I feel really good heading into this matchup Maggie final score prediction What do you have for us I

Maggie:

00:31:31.41 – 00:31:35.96

 Have Penn State 68 60

Vince:

00:31:36.61 – 00:31:41.41

I have a very similar store I have Penn State 70

Maggie:

00:31:41.42 – 00:31:42.38

 Wisconsin

Vince:

00:31:42.38 – 00:31:43.42

 60

Maggie:

00:31:43.43 – 00:31:44.31

 So

Vince:

00:31:44.31 – 00:31:46.73

 I’m I’m slightly more confident

Vince:

00:31:47.4 – 00:32:15.8

So two points more confident I feel really good about this Um you know their performance today is definitely not the team they’ve been throughout the year on the defensive end like that’s not who they are um you know I believe in them still and in their defense it’s just we gotta do better offensively and we’ll be okay So if we can get um cam and and uh and miles going again like they were you know

Vince:

00:32:15.98 – 00:32:40.68

they were on fire at the beginning of the season if we can just get them going even even five points each Like that would be so huge to building their confidence and that’s what we want them to There were games where cam had like 16 points earlier in the season and you’re just like wow this guy can ball um you know I wanna see I just want to see his confidence come back and because he he can ball like he’s

Maggie:

00:32:40.96 – 00:32:41.84

 he

Vince:

00:32:41.84 – 00:32:50.36

was a four time mvp uh you know for the Drexel Dragons So um you know he’s a guy who can play and uh you know

Vince:

00:32:50.93 – 00:33:07.52

I want to see him return to that form So um that’s that’s what we have for you today I think it’s gonna be a good performance for the Neti lines I think they’re gonna bounce back They’re gonna you know look like themselves However things need to change because they have to find a way

Vince:

00:33:07.72 – 00:33:23.43

to get some road winds because right now they are there to in the hole and that’s that’s uh not a place to be especially in february with March just right around the corner So hopefully things get better But with that being said if you’d like to
