Vince:

00:00:10.2 – 00:00:17.85

Yeah we still got the birds They’re flourishing Miles Sanders is doing his thing And uh you know when one more and we’re heading back to the Super Bowl

Andrew:

00:00:17.86 – 00:00:23.18

That’s right What do you think of the can that the Eagles opened up on the Giants this past weekend Big

Vince:

00:00:23.18 – 00:00:24.66

 Cannon will pass Uh

Vince:

00:00:24.81 – 00:00:45.66

you know and I’m liking that uh five years ago to this date was uh you know we we also beat the Minnesota Vikings 38 to 7 to actually advance to the Super Bowl So I’m hoping that is some good mojo I also saw like I don’t know if this is true or not I saw some you know I mean that’s like oh there’s a green comet coming by earth for the first time

Vince:

00:00:45.87 – 00:00:56.46

In like 15,000 years Uh you know when the Eagles play Sunday night it’s going to be visible So green comment to be assigned So go with the birds

Andrew:

00:00:56.47 – 00:01:00.27

Right Even the cosmos are philadelphia fans

Vince:

00:01:00.28 – 00:01:01.73

 absolutely nothing

Andrew:

00:01:02.09 – 00:01:02.83

 So

Andrew:

00:01:03.47 – 00:01:19.38

um one of my younger cousins actually is a giants fan Um not really sure where he went wrong in life but you know we like him and we keep we keep him around anyway But um anyway so he he and I got into like just a few seconds of smack talk on

Andrew:

00:01:19.55 – 00:01:40.215

saturday before the game And he said all the the Eagles are going down and I said not a chance and the first person I’m texting is you And so I stayed true to my word and so I wanted to be as like concise with what I said to him over the course of the game and so I just settled for an eagle emoji each time that the Eagles scored a touchdown So

Andrew:

00:01:40.225 – 00:02:01.845

so the entirety of our chat history during the course of the game was Eagle emoji Eagle emoji Eagle emoji sad crying face emoji from him Eagle emoji Eagle emoji So it was it was a pretty fun couple of hours not only just watching football but also just being able to you know rub it in just that little bit more Yeah

Vince:

00:02:01.845 – 00:02:08.17

I think the giants chances of winning that game was about as good as me going on a date with jennifer Lopez like not gonna happen

Andrew:

00:02:09.33 – 00:02:10.86

 Um have you tried before

Vince:

00:02:11.53 – 00:02:14.66

I have not So maybe I just need to shoot my shot

Andrew:

00:02:14.67 – 00:02:23.54

Yeah there we go Yeah once once this podcast takes off and we have a global audience then maybe we’ll be able to get j lo on and you can ask her out

Vince:

00:02:23.55 – 00:02:24.95

 Yeah totally

Andrew:

00:02:25.87 – 00:02:46.56

But um I know we got some Penn State football news to chat through It’s been you know a lighter week in the news Um as opposed to some other weeks where we’ve had you know mass number of like transfer portal news and stuff like that But there are some key things here But Vince do you want to get into the um ps you round table before we get into all that

Vince:

00:02:47.27 – 00:02:50.84

Yeah let’s do it Uh Basketball had a bit of a rough week that was

Andrew:

00:02:50.84 – 00:02:52.64

kind of up and down Uh

Vince:

00:02:52.65 – 00:03:16.61

They lost a really close in Wisconsin on the road that man they should have one Uh They lost that 63 to 60 They had a nice win over in Nebraska at home and the coaches versus cancer game They won that game 76 to 65 And then last night they had a really tough loss against Rutgers 65 to 45 They were close about halfway through the second half They were only down by three And

Vince:

00:03:16.74 – 00:03:29.97

you know Rutgers you know team from New Jersey like the Giants they I guess got some revenge and opened up a cannibal pass on the Nittany Lions So uh New Jersey got us back I guess you could say on the basketball

Andrew:

00:03:29.97 – 00:03:30.79

 court

Vince:

00:03:30.8 – 00:03:36.77

So you know this week a lot of big basketball games for them as well We have our annual thong game

Vince:

00:03:36.96 – 00:03:56.43

against michigan at 12 p.m. On sunday They will be in the B J C On the Big 10 network And then they’ll have a week on the road It’ll be at Purdue Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. On the Big 10 network And then at Nebraska on sunday at 4:30 p.m. On the Big 10 network Women’s basketball moved to 12 and eight on the season

Vince:

00:03:56.61 – 00:04:17.82

Uh They had a loss versus Minnesota 75 to 67 They rallied back to beat Wisconsin 74 to 69 tomorrow They play at Rutgers at seven PM And monday they’ll be at number 10 Maryland six p.m. On the Big 10 network The following week On thursday they will be hosting uh the Northwestern Wildcats at seven p.m.

Vince:

00:04:17.96 – 00:04:37.15

In the B J C Moving onto men’s hockey they remained number six in the polls They actually just had a really big weekend They had their one millionth fan uh for their game against Notre dame So that was pretty cool I definitely missed my chance I should have paid money for the game to be a chance to be the one millionth fan

Vince:

00:04:37.38 – 00:04:38.42

 missed opportunity

Andrew:

00:04:38.49 – 00:04:41.61

Did they get something for being the millionth fan

Vince:

00:04:41.62 – 00:04:48.89

I think they got like a nice jersey and they got like a picture on the website So I could have got a free hockey jersey was a million fan

Vince:

00:04:49.32 – 00:05:17.48

But you win some you lose some but they actually set up a goal a record for attendance on both nights Uh They lost the first game Uh but they came to to one but then they came back saturday night It was their annual white out game for the hockey team special jerseys They came back and won 3 to 2 to split the series and they ranked at number six this weekend Uh Their spot is definitely online as they travel to number seven

Vince:

00:05:17.64 – 00:05:42.92

michigan they play at seven p.m. On friday and they play on seven p.m. On saturday as well And the saturday matchup will be on the Big 10 network so fans and P A Will be able to uh watch that game on saturday night Women’s hockey stayed uh pretty much where they’ve been all season Number 12 They moved to 18 8 and two on the season They swept Mercyhurst this past week They won 5 to 2 and 3 to 2 in overtime

Vince:

00:05:43.18 – 00:06:09.9

Uh This weekend is their senior night They play lindenwood at six p.m. On friday And at two p.m. On saturday for senior night in Pegula ice arena Uh Men’s and women’s swimming both lost to Virginia Tech The men lost 1 72 to 1 21 and the women lost 1 55 to 1 40 Very good swimming program at Virginia Tech Their number 13 for the men and 23 for the women So really tough swimming and diving squad

Vince:

00:06:10.06 – 00:06:19.89

Uh friday at four p.m. At McCoy an auditorium Villanova is coming to town So you know if you’re in state college friday Check it out four p.m. Men’s and women’s swimming and diving

Vince:

00:06:21.0 – 00:06:43.48

Our team who is always dominant Uh men’s wrestling number 1 10 on the season Uh And speaking about like the Eagles open opening a can of whoop pass men’s wrestling Uh Number three michigan 32 8 sunday two days later they beat number 22 michigan state 34 to 6

Vince:

00:06:43.81 – 00:06:51.16

Um Man I just I just wish the football team could be this good and just be like oh number three we’re just gonna be you guys 30 day like man

Andrew:

00:06:51.17 – 00:06:51.95

 just imagine

Vince:

00:06:52.0 – 00:06:58.07

if the wrestling prestige was in our football program Like how much fun that would be to watch every single

Andrew:

00:06:58.07 – 00:06:59.42

 year I mean

Vince:

00:06:59.43 – 00:07:00.45

 like Alabama

Andrew:

00:07:00.46 – 00:07:01.88

 yeah

Vince:

00:07:01.89 – 00:07:11.86

We’d be the new Alabama or Georgia I mean it would be even better than that like with wrestling they’ve they’ve won what like nine out of the past 11 years like it’s just

Andrew:

00:07:12.07 – 00:07:12.51

 huge

Vince:

00:07:12.51 – 00:07:34.37

dynasty It’s like almost weird if they if they don’t win and even not being like a huge wrestling fan it’s just fun to see them just win every year And I’m like oh this is probably how it feels to be like a new England patriots fan and like the you know 2000 tens I guess when they’re winning all those uh you know all those games so they are not done yet though this weekend friday

Vince:

00:07:34.62 – 00:08:03.77

at the B J C They have another big match up just like they did against number three michigan at 8:30 p.m. You can watch this on the big 10 network They’ll be facing off against the number two Iowa Hawkeye So big weekend in Happy Valley as they come into town Really pretty much the biggest matchup of the season and until they get into Big Ten’s in the N C Double A Tournament So um big things going on there Number four men’s volleyball overall had a really good week They’d be

Vince:

00:08:04.0 – 00:08:31.47

they went to Austin and beat number five Pepperdine University 3 to 1 and number eight stanford 3 to 1 However just moments ago we did see they got their first loss of the season against number three Long Beach State interact call Uh They lost 3 to 1 had a really strong first set and then lost three consecutive sets by two points each It was 25 to 23 26 to 24 27 25

Vince:

00:08:31.61 – 00:08:57.59

So the Nittany Lions definitely did put up a really good fight but just not able to take care of business at home Um On february 4th uh they will be in the B J B J C Recall for the big 10 pac 12 challenge uh On the 3rd and 4th they’ll be playing at seven p.m. One night is versus U C L A The second night and then the first night is against USC Ohio State will also

Vince:

00:08:57.74 – 00:09:25.71

be in town playing U S C And U C L A As well So um not playing Ohio State but you’ll definitely see some buckeye fans around the valley right And men’s gymnastics they’ll be playing um at recall or competing I guess against Nebraska at one p.m. So if you’re in town I want to check it out Check out the men’s gymnastics team number 24 women’s gymnastics They moved to six and three on the season Had a really close loss against number 16

Vince:

00:09:25.99 – 00:09:48.25

Minnesota They lost 126.2 to 5 to 195.5 to 5 I’m not a huge gymnastics fan Uh you caught me but uh really close score less than a point So tough loss monday at eight p.m. They’ll be reversing uh Rutgers and they’ll be competing on the big 10 network So

Vince:

00:09:48.46 – 00:10:16.88

turn on the television and check out women’s gymnastics and see all the crazy things they do Uh if you follow them on social media you can see um a lot of the competitions as well and doing all the flips and stunts and really incredible what they can do And uh last but not least my favorite track and field Uh Penn State’s teams are hosting a big big Penn State national open this weekend So they’ll be competing on the 27th and 28th It’s a really big

Vince:

00:10:17.09 – 00:10:46.32

uh two day meet and I’ll actually be competing there as well and the kind of the open mile for the you know people in the Nittany Valley Running Club and uh Penn State club track team So I’ll be competing that mile as well And we actually had our time moved up a an hour so we’re competing at three o’clock instead of four And the reason for that is because this is such a big track meet and you know all the best people on the East Coast come up to

Vince:

00:10:46.5 – 00:10:56.47

places like state college to compete in track and field is a really big meet So if you’re a big track and field fan definitely check it out And speaking of track

Andrew:

00:10:56.47 – 00:10:57.72

 guys Penn

Vince:

00:10:57.72 – 00:11:05.41

State got a couple new preferred walk on recruits The first one we have here is Ethan Black is a P A guy

Vince:

00:11:05.58 – 00:11:19.55

Claims to run a 4.25 that is his fastest 40 time but also a stud in the 100 m dash as he’s the p of 10.78 Andrew that is flying What does Ethan black mean for this program

Andrew:

00:11:19.56 – 00:11:22.37

We got a guy who can run run he

Vince:

00:11:22.37 – 00:11:24.28

 can run run

Vince:

00:11:24.88 – 00:11:25.59

 with

Andrew:

00:11:25.6 – 00:11:26.64

 them We

Vince:

00:11:26.64 – 00:11:52.46

also got David kenzie Jr who you know three star guy out of Louisiana and this is a third running back for this 2023 class So we got another running back and then we got kind of a local guy and uh Carson key sweater from Altoona P A So two P A guy’s one Louisiana guy um already to make an impact as preferred walk on for this Penn State squad

Andrew:

00:11:52.68 – 00:12:16.97

Yeah super awesome news especially I was really happy to see um Penn State kind of refilling the depth at the running back room just because you know we had um Singleton and Alan being the only two um scholarship running backs on the squad before Montgomery and Wallace were coming in with this most upcoming class So I think it’s really great that Penn State’s refilling at that spot

Vince:

00:12:17.23 – 00:12:33.29

Yeah And uh just like we said on our last pot like Penn State wants to get to that Ohio State level where hey next year we’re just reloading and it’s been like five star guys waiting their turn once you get to that point as a program that’s kind of when you know you’ve made it

Andrew:

00:12:33.3 – 00:12:46.05

Yeah And I think to like Penn State has kind of found themselves back into the traditional script of next guy up at the running back spot because you know it really

Andrew:

00:12:46.34 – 00:13:07.53

um hasn’t had like a sense of normalcy since there was like that transition from Sequana Miles Sanders because even before c quan there was Akeel lynch and then Sae kwon came to town kind of took over the show and then we had like um some normalcy as far as like all right this is the next guy who’s going to be like the number one running back and then it was kind of like a

Andrew:

00:13:07.7 – 00:13:30.76

like a kind of strange amalgamation of like Journey Brown Noah cain devin ford um and then Journey Brown looked like he was ready to like kind of take that mantle and then he had his health issues and then it was kind of like noah cain um Noah cain gets hurt devin ford in spots um because I homes and brief flashes and that’s when we saw

Andrew:

00:13:31.1 – 00:13:47.45

Kiev only kind of take the stage a little bit and then this year it was you know we’ve only is kind of the inherent starter at that spot So we see cavon heavy dose of Kiev only and then of course nick Singleton and john Allen happened and so now I feel like Penn State is finally back to like you know

Andrew:

00:13:47.64 – 00:14:08.75

out of all of the you know transfers out and stuff like that Like Penn State is finally back to a place like where they know what the next like couple of years are probably going to look like at the running back spot versus like you know having um you know somebody like evenly coming in who is extremely talented in his own right but then had some injury concerns and

Andrew:

00:14:08.9 – 00:14:25.47

like then you have these young guys kind of stealing the show like you know if God forbid um nick Singleton and kate Ron allen get hurt but I think both of them have kind of proven their mettle enough that you know like Cameron Wallace would have to do something pretty damn special to upend either one of those guys

Vince:

00:14:25.48 – 00:14:29.9

Yeah that’s agreed but you never know what life is gonna throw at you and

Vince:

00:14:30.13 – 00:14:53.83

an injury So it’s just good to have that depth and you know and it raises the level of your competitions in practice you know iron sharpens iron So the fact that there is so much talent in that room and so much young talent uh these are all hungry guys that are looking to see the field now that the downside of not having the veterans is we don’t quite have that uh that guy in the film room to help you

Vince:

00:14:54.04 – 00:15:11.24

uh with those little things the little the little advanced technique things and the things that they’ll notice on the film just from doing this 34 or five years in a row that that’s going to be a component that they’re missing But man the the level of competition and energy that will come from that group is going to be off the charts

Andrew:

00:15:11.77 – 00:15:19.17

Yeah for sure Especially since you know we have such a consistent presence with guys like jay want cider Yeah

Vince:

00:15:19.18 – 00:15:24.33

that like we talked about Ethan Black being able to run run that guy can like recruit recruit

Andrew:

00:15:24.33 – 00:15:29.95

like speaking of really strong recruiters there’s been some

Andrew:

00:15:30.17 – 00:15:52.695

big splashing news in Penn State coaching this past week in Penn State getting their new wide receivers coach marquez Hagan formerly the wide receivers coach at Virginia and uh you know I wanted to bring this up because Vince I’m personally very excited for marquez to be coming onto this coaching staff Seems to be a guy who

Andrew:

00:15:52.705 – 00:16:13.245

who is really liked by all the players that he’s coached so far He has a really strong background in recruiting Like Penn State has actually battled with him a number of times over the years to try and get um some offensive players out of Virginia and his receivers have been some of the most productive in program history I saw something that like of all the

Vince:

00:16:13.255 – 00:16:13.855

 top

Andrew:

00:16:14.065 – 00:16:15.24

 receivers

Andrew:

00:16:15.37 – 00:16:24.0

Yeah like it’s it’s insane the kind of production that that his players have had So I’m really excited for him to be coming in Penn State has given him the

Andrew:

00:16:24.31 – 00:16:47.29

additional title of offensive recruiting coordinator So it sounds like he’s gonna be really involved on the recruiting side as well Um I had mentioned before you know how they kind of want to emulate Ohio State’s brian Hartline Like this to me kind of seems like Penn State’s attempt at doing that And so you know he’s had really good success with the players that he’s had in Virginia and not to

Andrew:

00:16:47.42 – 00:17:14.71

you know try and like minimum minimize like the talent that’s at Virginia but you know Penn State as a as a recruiting forces a bit stronger than Virginia And so now he’s gonna be coaching the likes of like Dante Cephus keandre Lambert smith trey Wallace and Penn State also got another transfer wide receiver in the form of Malik McClain out of florida state So he’s got a crop of really young really fast really talented receivers So I’m personally pump events What are your thoughts

Vince:

00:17:15.09 – 00:17:38.28

Um I am excited by I am spectacle because we kind of had something that’s worked for us over the past few years and taylor Stubblefield and he did a really good job with Jahan Dotson parker Washington keandre lambert smith Mitchell Tinsley Uh it’s working the wide receivers were pretty good this year So when when you’re throwing a new guy in

Vince:

00:17:38.67 – 00:18:08.31

um you know you got to trust the process here and with coach franklin if he if he’s doing something it’s it’s probably you know for a reason and we talked about him getting that offensive coordinator role So um you know we we could could not work it might not work We we don’t know that at this point in time but hopefully he gets the recruits there he coaches them up well and we have that continued success of wide receivers getting drafted in the 1st and 2nd round of the draft

Andrew:

00:18:08.53 – 00:18:29.34

Yeah you bring up a lot of good points there You really don’t know what you’re going to get on the football field after a coaching change And you know we had mentioned after Stubblefield was let go that this was kind of a bit of a surprise because of the improved play from the wide receiver So you know in a way it was a little bit out of the blue Um

Andrew:

00:18:29.48 – 00:18:52.11

I guess I would say that I’m a little bit in the camp though of you know if franklin is making a coaching change like this he has like a deliberate plan behind it you know because when he’s found opportunities to upgrade or update the coaching staff in a way that he thinks is going to benefit the football team he really hasn’t shown a lot of hesitation in doing so Um you know because I think back to after the 2020 season

Andrew:

00:18:52.25 – 00:19:00.0

Um when he let go of Kirk Chirac A and hired Mike you’re sick and I mean granted the offense in 2020 was putrid but you know

Andrew:

00:19:00.24 – 00:19:29.42

Penn State historically has not been a program that has fired coaches after a single year even if their particular field of focus was performing poorly on the field So you know it’s definitely something new for Penn State football to kind of see this type of like almost cutthroat mentality but I’m excited to see what happens here Um and Vince you know if if you’re if you’re skeptical right now maybe this will help put your mind at ease Did you know that marquez Hagen is actually good buddies with Allen Iverson

Vince:

00:19:29.64 – 00:19:57.3

that is pretty cool I like that he’s bringing that Philly swag to State college because you know well it’s been a while since Phillies won a title you know that that swag from the 2017 2018 Eagles and and then kind of you know getting back to where they are now is really exciting So I’m definitely liking that energy and you make a good point with you know we got rid of Shaka and brought in your ship and that things got better and

Vince:

00:19:57.57 – 00:20:13.76

there’s been some big improvements and we know that coach franklin has let’s face it one of the highest pressure jobs in all of college football There’s not many places in the N C Double A Where the expectations are higher than Penn State

Andrew:

00:20:13.76 – 00:20:14.5

 So

Vince:

00:20:14.51 – 00:20:17.59

he does have to make those cutthroat decisions

Vince:

00:20:18.0 – 00:20:44.99

If you think a guy if he thinks the guy is going to be an upgrade over you know his current coaching staff and while it may or may not be liked amongst uh you know players in the locker room or other coaches there or cruise we don’t know because obviously we’re not you know in the building with them every day Uh you know we just got to trust the process and you know hope these moves he’s he’s going for a workout

Andrew:

00:20:45.16 – 00:21:08.71

Um here’s a fun mental exercise So I am completely in agreement that you know Penn State is one of the more high pressure coaching jobs in college football Just given like the history the rabid fan base and stuff like that So what are some programs that you think are higher pressure than Penn State and I mean I think we can probably start like with Alabama and Georgia

Vince:

00:21:08.72 – 00:21:13.1

Yeah those two are always the highest Alabama fans were

Vince:

00:21:13.25 – 00:21:37.01

you know definitely upset and about not making the college football playoff this year and losing those two close games Georgia with their success has to be up there Clemson not making the college football playoff in a few years I feel like that that’s a pretty high pressure job Um Ohio State kind of being down and then like outside of those four

Vince:

00:21:37.18 – 00:21:57.58

like I think you know michigan and also kind of around that same level and maybe like a Notre dame since they haven’t been quite as good recently So Oklahoma texas I mean they’re pretty high pressure jobs like Oklahoma has done well obviously recently but texas uh

Vince:

00:21:57.81 – 00:22:09.29

has shown some flashes but not been able to put a full season together So I feel like those are a few of the more high pressure jobs in all of college football How about you Do I miss any

Andrew:

00:22:09.3 – 00:22:20.86

No I think you hit on all the big ones I was gonna say texas for sure Just because like texas you know football is almost like woven into their identity as a state Like going from

Andrew:

00:22:21.04 – 00:22:42.16

like high school all the way to the pro level So you know the texas Longhorns like that’s just a part of life down south So I would definitely say them um USC has been you know pretty high pressure I mean Clay Helton the guy like one rose bowl over us and stuff like that in a couple of years later he got the ax you know pretty um quickly and judiciously um

Andrew:

00:22:42.69 – 00:22:48.37

you know um I would say you know all the like classic players in the sec are there um

Andrew:

00:22:48.98 – 00:22:50.55

 uh Notre dame

Vince:

00:22:53.45 – 00:22:55.9

 Yeah Yeah

Andrew:

00:22:55.91 – 00:23:05.57

no doubt Yeah I mean like all those all those big schools out there and yeah I mean I would say like the big 10 as well because I mean like the nice thing about like

Andrew:

00:23:05.85 – 00:23:25.14

you know Ohio like jobs like Ohio state and michigan like the expectations are high But typically those schools perform very well and I mean we’re like half a step below them right now So we’re in like kind of a comfortable spot where it’s like yeah the pressure is there but you know they’re performing to a satisfactory level Yeah

Vince:

00:23:25.15 – 00:23:30.56

And I think Wisconsin and like Nebraska are kind of to the schools that are up there Nebraska has just been

Andrew:

00:23:30.76 – 00:23:31.51

 kind

Vince:

00:23:31.51 – 00:23:54.82

of a dumpster fire for the you know the past handful years 5 10 years But you know Wisconsin has has been a program that’s been typically very good when Penn State won the big 10 they were the winners of the big 10 west that year So um yeah I feel like those are probably more of the high pressure jobs maybe Iowa with their lack of offensive production

Vince:

00:23:54.97 – 00:23:58.27

Their their fans are I think starting that kind of fed

Andrew:

00:23:58.27 – 00:23:59.6

 up But I

Vince:

00:23:59.6 – 00:24:00.66

 mean Kirk

Andrew:

00:24:00.67 – 00:24:05.33

parents has been there for like Kirk Ferentz has been there for like a lifetime So

Vince:

00:24:05.34 – 00:24:07.37

 that’s a good point

Andrew:

00:24:07.38 – 00:24:15.13

Like the guy the guy can go like eight like seven and five or eight and four every year and he’ll he’ll be there for as long as Iowa fans will have him I feel like

Vince:

00:24:15.14 – 00:24:20.48

Yeah but you never know maybe they want to uh you know get some offense at some point

Andrew:

00:24:20.49 – 00:24:24.64

Well according to uh you know transfer quarterback cade uh

Andrew:

00:24:24.82 – 00:24:30.63

cade McNamara from michigan um We shouldn’t talk about how crappy their offenses

Andrew:

00:24:31.42 – 00:24:33.34

 but nonetheless um

Vince:

00:24:33.35 – 00:24:35.77

Hey October 26 We’ll Find Out

Andrew:

00:24:35.78 – 00:24:57.04

That’s right man Yeah No we got they got something coming to them Um I have uh I have a special package for kate in the form of Abdul carter coming through unblocked just ready to um put him on his back as we would like to say But um nonetheless uh what are the news you got from this week Vince

Vince:

00:24:57.74 – 00:25:12.38

Yeah that’s a that’s about it Pretty low key week here in state college Got some snow So the students enjoy the snow day today I’m sure as they always do having a good time So how about you do you guys get snow down in Lancaster

Andrew:

00:25:12.39 – 00:25:18.51

So we got like a little bit earlier today but then it just like quickly turned to rain and

Andrew:

00:25:18.66 – 00:25:37.61

it was snowing pretty hard for like an hour and a half to two hours So we actually had like half an inch of snow like in our backyard and on our deck and on our street and stuff like that And I was like oh this is perfect because I’ve been wanting to have like one solid snow in winter uh just because I like the snow Um just you know in

Andrew:

00:25:37.77 – 00:25:55.51

like very uh small doses you know not like being like snowed in or anything like that And also my dogs love the snow like they go running around in it in the backyard So I was really hoping that like this was gonna be the snow and then like the rain game and now it’s uh it’s all just a muddy mess So my dreams were very quickly dashed

Vince:

00:25:56.1 – 00:26:05.51

Yeah crushed like Penn State volleyball looking like they’re gonna you know actually knock off the number three team and just just falling a little bit short

Andrew:

00:26:05.52 – 00:26:24.57

That’s right Uh so I got something fun here for events Um so Sports Illustrated very recently released their odds list for the 2023 Heisman Trophy and so let’s do a little bit of trivia with you here So if I had to ask you between Drew our and nick Singleton which

Andrew:

00:26:24.58 – 00:26:29.63

those players do you think has the higher Heisman Trophy odds according to Sports Illustrated

Vince:

00:26:29.64 – 00:26:45.47

So I would say the higher odds should would probably go to through our because oftentimes if if it’s kind of a close race you just see it going to the quarterback of the best team or one of the best teams It’s it’s very rare for

Vince:

00:26:45.61 – 00:26:56.95

you know a position player outside of the quarterback to win it Uh you know you saw it with like Derrick Henry and I think he was the last non quarterback to win it Am I wrong there Did I miss somebody

Andrew:

00:26:56.96 – 00:27:00.15

dude You are wrong our guy Devante smith

Vince:

00:27:00.16 – 00:27:02.88

Oh that’s right How did I miss Devante

Andrew:

00:27:02.89 – 00:27:03.88

 Uh no I’m

Andrew:

00:27:03.89 – 00:27:22.17

messing with you but you are correct with your guest Um our does have the better odds of the two he is sitting currently according to Sports Illustrated as a 25 to 1 odds to win the Heisman Trophy whereas Singleton has 50 to 1 odds And so here’s a bit of like a follow up question for you here

Andrew:

00:27:22.34 – 00:27:30.91

um between Drew our and JJ McCarthy um quarterback at michigan Which of those two players do you think has the higher odds

Vince:

00:27:30.92 – 00:27:35.78

Well I did see this article I know it’s through our has the higher higher odds

Andrew:

00:27:35.79 – 00:27:37.67

 Yeah I

Vince:

00:27:37.68 – 00:27:51.55

think I think it’s a fair case because you see all those explosive weapons and all the speed that Penn State has if you watch that Rose Bowl like how they utilize the tight ends like you know johnson and Tyler Warren and and the wing t

Vince:

00:27:51.76 – 00:27:57.18

and you know with him being so athletic and you know having that cannon of an arm and

Vince:

00:27:57.76 – 00:28:04.67

with all the speed wide receivers that we have like you know Harrison was the third and you know mari Evans and

Vince:

00:28:05.36 – 00:28:11.76

you know we got Dante Cephas coming in and Malik McClain like it’s just you know good look

Andrew:

00:28:11.77 – 00:28:12.14

 like

Andrew:

00:28:12.68 – 00:28:12.94

 so

Vince:

00:28:12.94 – 00:28:21.08

many weapons and that’s what kind of what I talked about early in these offseason pods was I want us to surround Drew our with as many weapons as possible

Andrew:

00:28:21.09 – 00:28:39.26

Yeah these are all excellent points I mean Drew our is not going to have any shortage of players to throw the ball to and we know that he has the arm talent to really just put up gaudy numbers um score some of those like highlight touchdowns and stuff like that And I think you know in the case of Drew our versus JJ McCarthy I think something that

Andrew:

00:28:39.43 – 00:28:58.32

You know fairly or unfairly works against McCarthy is the fact that blake Corum is coming back to Michigan and he was a Heisman um vote receiver in for the 2022 season So it’s almost like he has to um kind of overcome his own teammate in a way as far as the Heisman voters are concerned Yeah

Vince:

00:28:58.32 – 00:29:07.45

And if you go back to almost looking at Nick Singleton as well he has to share the load with Katrina Allen which I think kind of hurts his Heisman chances as well

Andrew:

00:29:07.46 – 00:29:09.3

 Yeah no doubt Um

Andrew:

00:29:09.5 – 00:29:22.58

you know but I guess if if I had to pick between um Nick Singleton winning the Heisman and Penn State having a legitimate shot at winning the national championship I think I’m gonna take the ladder every single time and twice on sunday

Vince:

00:29:22.66 – 00:29:25.29

every day Twice on sunday That’s

Andrew:

00:29:25.29 – 00:29:35.35

right Yeah But no this is good stuff man Um we do have uh just a couple of other um recruiting and transfer portal notes So

Andrew:

00:29:35.49 – 00:29:53.38

we’re talking a lot about wide receiver So um jaden dot young receiver out of Penn State has entered the transfer portal He has two years of eligibility remaining Um I would say this is not overly surprising given what Penn State has kind of established as far as like DeAndre robert smith tray wall

Andrew:

00:29:53.39 – 00:30:14.48

and the incoming transfer portal guys and Dante Cephas and Malik McClain So best of luck to you Jaden and Penn State also got off to a hot start on the 2020 for recruiting class trail and bringing in four star linebacker Anthony Speca out of Pittsburgh So Vince what are your thoughts on young Anthony

Vince:

00:30:14.87 – 00:30:24.16

You know everyone wants to get out of Pittsburgh and come to Penn State that those are my thoughts you don’t see him hanging out with Pat Narduzzi that’s my thoughts on that

Andrew:

00:30:24.17 – 00:30:42.32

Nice Yeah maybe he’ll uh you know um my mind just goes to another um promising young linebacker out of Pittsburgh by the name of lavar Arrington So maybe we’ll see uh maybe we’ll see a repeat of that So Anthony welcome to Happy Valley Look forward to have you in the program and also on the field

Andrew:

00:30:42.49 – 00:30:48.32

But yeah Vince that’s all I got for you today So anything else you wanna chat about or should we get out of here

Vince:

00:30:48.33 – 00:30:50.73

I think the only thing we can say is go birds

Andrew:

00:30:50.74 – 00:30:57.72

Go birds Uh so do you have any like bold predictions or like a score prediction for this game On sunday

Vince:

00:30:57.73 – 00:31:01.15

 score prediction I’ll take

Vince:

00:31:01.43 – 00:31:13.47

You know what I’m feeling optimistic There’s a green comet coming I think that’s going to be a sign So I’ll say birds 27 niners 24

Andrew:

00:31:13.79 – 00:31:17.63

 I’ll take the birds 21 – 17

Vince:

00:31:17.64 – 00:31:28.72

Yeah I could see it being a low scoring game My biggest concern heading into this is that for the 40 niners defense will be too good and now we just won’t be able to score And

Vince:

00:31:28.95 – 00:31:48.38

um you know we had a couple of games this year where that we just turned the ball over like the Saints game and the commanders game like they just kept turning the ball over and the 40 niners are undefeated when they won the turnover differential and I think they lost all their games when they’re minus 10 turnover differential So I think we’re watching that game

Vince:

00:31:48.58 – 00:32:10.53

turnovers are going to be the key thing to watch when you see them play the 40 niners because you know brock Purdy while he has a lot of weapons around him The Eagles don’t get gashed by rookie quarterbacks that much So um you know if they can do their job on defense and stop them enough and the offense takes care of the ball Um I think it’s gonna be tough for the 40 niners to win in the link with you know the crew

Vince:

00:32:10.54 – 00:32:12.41

that and the fans that really have

Andrew:

00:32:12.42 – 00:32:40.08

Yeah no doubt I’m in complete agreement And so I think it’s just gonna be super important for them to knock pretty kind of off his block early and often you know kind of just like not not even like sack him a bunch of times but like get in his face like do some like quarterback hurries and stuff like that Just make sure that um they know or make sure that he knows that you know he’s not gonna be able to just kind of sit in there and do whatever he wants as far as like getting the ball to like CMC or Kindle or debo like you know you gotta gotta like put a little pressure on him

Vince:

00:32:40.2 – 00:32:56.78

Yeah And uh you know I know we talked a lot about this big end of C matchup because we’re die hard eagle fans But what do you think about the A F C Are you going with big red uh and the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes Or do you think that the swag of joe burrow is going to take Cincinnati to back to back super bowls

Andrew:

00:32:56.79 – 00:33:03.91

Dude I freaking love joe burrow I mean talk about just like a like a cold blooded assassin I mean that guy like

Andrew:

00:33:04.08 – 00:33:28.61

you know you want to talk about like do your work in the dark kind of thing like he just embodies it and I love it because he just comes out and just balls So I um I think that Cincinnati is really hot at the right time Um You know I think that you know that big touchdown return um at the end of the Baltimore game really kind of catapulted them into like a really good run of football for them and you know just a

Andrew:

00:33:28.74 – 00:33:47.38

just an absolute smothering of Buffalo really kind of solidified this idea in my mind I think I’m probably gonna be rolling with Cincinnati in this game Especially since I’m not really sure what Patrick Mahomes health is gonna look like Um Not sure if you like listen to the broadcast but Tony Romo had a pretty decent point about like

Andrew:

00:33:47.51 – 00:34:09.88

high ankle sprain and like what it’s like to have it happen in the game and come back into the game He said you know he like when it happens to you you’re gonna play the rest of the game Like the adrenaline is gonna kick in like it’s gonna hurt but you’re gonna be able to play on it tomorrow he’s not gonna be able to walk like you’re almost gonna have to have crutches um to get around because like by then you know everything stiffened up like the pain is kind of setting in and stuff like that

Andrew:

00:34:10.03 – 00:34:21.56

so not really sure what Patrick Mahomes health is going to be looking like and I mean I just I just think that you know that offense can only go so far without him Um So I think it’s gonna be a huge linchpin in all this

Vince:

00:34:21.57 – 00:34:31.61

Yeah not being able to move and use his mobility which is a big part of his game and why he’s so good uh definitely could hurt the chief’s offense Andy reid is a really good offensive mind so

Vince:

00:34:31.75 – 00:34:49.16

I’m sure we’ll have a plan together However Kansas City’s defense just hasn’t consistently shown to be a good defense over the years and I think it would be a really high scoring game and I think you know joe burrow and his swag will you know take the take the Bengals over the Chiefs I’ll say like

Vince:

00:34:49.51 – 00:35:07.41

Maybe 44-41 like I think it’s a wild high scoring I wouldn’t I wouldn’t be surprised if it was was higher than that you know arrowhead arrowhead might you know might make it harder and you might see some you know maybe some more turnovers or false starts that you know stall some drives but

Vince:

00:35:07.77 – 00:35:15.11

yeah I’m joe burrow love the swag love that He left Ohio State to go somewhere else Like what more can you do you like about the guy

Andrew:

00:35:15.12 – 00:35:31.57

Yeah He just seems like a super cool down to earth guy And so um you know I think it’s uh it’s really neat just like watching him succeed the way he has So um yeah we’re in for an awesome weekend of football But I’m sure our heart rates are gonna be up quite high when the birds take the field

Vince:

00:35:31.58 – 00:35:36.45

Yeah My heart rate for the Eagles might be higher than when I race my mile on friday

Andrew:

00:35:37.53 – 00:35:41.87

Yeah maybe maybe So You’ll have to keep me updated on how you do with that

Vince:

00:35:42.02 – 00:35:45.77

Yeah So yeah gotta run fast and turn left and hope for the best

Andrew:

00:35:45.78 – 00:35:48.54

That’s right man So why don’t you send us home
